Heilbronn Research Fellows (Statistical Data Mining)
Full job advert here.
These three-year posts are in effect half-time personal postdoctoral positions (as distinct from posts with a predetermined research project). The Heilbronn Institute is a partnership between the UK Government Communications Headquarters and Bristol University, and while Fellows work half-time for GCHQ, the rest can be used on whatever research topics they wish. In the case of data mining, it is probably that any methodological work done for GCHQ could also be published externally.
As well as time for research, Fellows benefit by opportunities to broaden their mathematical knowledge, work in teams, and gain experience of teaching and administrative organization.
To recognize the special nature of these posts, there is a salary supplement of 3.5K pounds per annum in addition to Bristol's standard academic salary scales, and each Fellow has a research support budget of 2K per annum.
Fellows have to satisfy security clearance requirements. As described in the advertisement and further particulars, the Director of the Institute is willing to advise on eligibility. Apart from UK resident UK citizens, current staff include citizens of the US, Canada and Australia. Note however that citizens of EU countries other than the UK are not eligible.
