Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technologies

The Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technology (PRHLT) research group is composed by researchers from the Departament de Sistemes Informàtics y Computació (DSIC) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), from the Institut Tecnològic d'Informàtica (ITI), and from the Departament d'Informàtica de Sistemes i Computadors (DISCA).

Some of the researches that are working on the field of image analysis and computer vision are organized as the research subgroup RIVA.

The main research areas of interest of PRHLT are:

Multimodal Interaction
A Pattern Recognition framework aiming at assistive, rather than full automation technologies.
Machine Translation
Speech-to-speech, text-to-text and computer assisted language translation.
Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Document Analysis
Technologies for the recognition of unsegmented (off-line) text images and (on-line) electronic pen signals.
Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding
Technologies for applications such as: telephone exchange services, device control by voice, spoken information queries, etc.
Image Analysis and Computer Vision
Technologies for applications such as: medical diagnosis, biometric identification, image and video retrieval, etc.

PRHLT is involved in a number of projects with public and private budgets. In particular with EU through a ESPRIT and FP projects, and with the Spanish government through CICYT projects. PRHLT has developed different prototypes and products for speech recognition and translation, fingerprint identification and quality control of industrial manufacturing. It is also collaborating with important research groups of Spain and the European Community in speech recognition and translation.

PRHLT is the leader of the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 project MIPRCV, founded by the Spanish Government, and the Prometeo project ALMPR, founded by the Valencian Government.
